February 12

Pictures courtesy The Round and Madison Elle Photography

So this was cool. The Fremont Abbey does a Round every month - a round of good music, good poetry, and good art. Today was their 93th round since they've begun, and it was marvelous. There was a stage full of exceptionally talented artists, a room full of enthusiastic hipsters, and many many well-loved faces.

Also Dearborn is phenomenal. Feel free to listen to their stuff on repeat for days.

February 11

Hello pretty city, it's good to be back.
It was good to be gone a while,
but it is equally good to be welcomed home by your gray and blue skyline.
You are moody these days, but this is how I love you best - with your brooding lows and sunny highs.
Thank you for understanding it's Monday.

February 10

Ferry Terminal, Southworth, WA

Markus and I decided to go on a mini adventure..so we packed overnight bags and headed down to pretty Port Orchard to visit his wonderful parents, eat good food, wake up to the smell of coffee, walk on the beach, go to a blue grass party, and listen to a road trip mix that had this on it. (am I dating a patient man or what?)

It was lovely.

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT SKY? IT'S BLUE, I TELL YOU, BLUE.

Why am I happy about this, you wonder? Because this was taken at 7.09 am. Not that many weeks ago, scuttling out of the house at 7.09 to wait for the bus meant pitch darkness, which in turn meant that  all reasonable calculations told me I should still be in bed. It also made meant waving my cell phone around, opening and closing my red umbrella repeatedly, and wearing neon pants to make sure the bus driver saw me.

Now it is light outside. This equals hope.

Today I made Jambalaya. There is no picture because there is no pretty way to capture stewed rice in cajun spice, no matter what they tell you. But it was delicious.

I overslept. My bus was late. It's so foggy and drizzly out today that it feels like day-time never quite made it.

But I have an excellent cup of coffee in my hands, and will spend my day with beautiful old books and wonderful people.

It's a good day to work at a library.

Happy Independence Day Sri Lanka! Keep that flag flying high. I am proud to call you home.

*Clearly I did not take this picture. But I love it.

Oh hey Superbowl, sports holiday that I love. Thanks for being a perfect excuse to eat nachos and pizza and yelling alot. Thanks for providing us with entertaining commercials to quibble over. Thank you especially for giving us Destiny's Child and making Beyonce the winner even though the ravens did pretty good too. #teamfierce

It was a fun evening, despite the absents of the Seahawks.

The cure for bitter spoonfulls of I'm-working-on-a-Saturday? A solid breakfast. With Alisa, preferably.

Al is my fashion guru, my travel buddy, my roomie, and one of my nearest and dearest. I will have french toast with blueberries with her any day of the year. But I am particularly grateful for her company on days that need a little help.

February 1

This is the view from my work. I saw sun filtering in through the leaves and ran up to the third floor for a better view. I get the distinct feeling that Spring is on it's way.
