Today is the collegiate day of prayer. People huddled outside in the rain praying blessing on this campus, these students, this country, this world. There was music and coffee. It was rather beautiful.

Meet Phillip (pronounced Phileep). He is a snail from France who currently lives in the juvenile section of the library. I suppose it acts as a sort of trailer park for him. Traumatized by the rate at which gourmet garlic butter escargot was becoming a trend, he turned on his heel and escaped France on a barge as a young snail in the early eighties under the guise of a common stone. Today Phillip lives in a community home, teaches several times a year at local elementry schools (it takes him a while to get from appointment to appointment), and aids undergraduate education students in both lesson planning and procrastination.

Sometimes I am also a slow mover and Phillip understands me well.

Lincoln Park, West Seattle
It was a beautiful, overcast Sunday - bookended by church and class, but filled in the middle with a glorious romp around the park, with a walk through the trees and a saunter by the windy, windy Puget Sound. Apparently whales swim by sometimes. We didn't see any, but I feel certain that there were a few just below the surface.

Oh and then we watched I Love You, Man and ate tatertots with Aly till about 2am. #goodlifechoices


We also found somebody's art.

Today was a home day - reorganizing food cupboards, cleaning the kitchen, fluffing pillows, baking bread...
Mundane? Yes.
Rejuvinating? Definitely.
Pumpkin bread in February? No shame. Deliciousness knows no seasons.

Today we had a rice buffet. Don't know that that is? For shame. It's when you make a pot of rice and and everyone brings a topping. It is also code for "today we get to eat whatever we want". Toppings included chili, Thai chicken, steamed broccoli, tatertots, potato soup, sriracha (there could have been no other way), and cheese. Brown sugar and milk would have also been acceptable choices.
 

And so a family dinner ensued.

Stephen brought the puzzle - soon in will be a picture of mosque minarets.

There is nothing - nothing, I say - better than three day weekends. They are better than free coffee, better than sales at anthro, better than even packages. They are not better than Thai food.

Today I floated awake after 12 hours in my featherbed grave to twittering birds, sunlight and free life. It was a day of nothing and a day of everything. No rushes, no hurries, just walks, and apple crisps, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. And then my featherbed again.
