June 30

I spent my day with this girl today.
She's Chelsea, by the way, and she's living with us for the summer, making sure Olivia's room is kept safe while Livs is off doing cool sciency things in California. And also she's working with World Relief, learning how to paddle board, getting a tan, experiencing the beauty of Trader Joes, and living the sea-city coffee culture life.
We love her and would like to let it be known that we're planning on luring her back to Seattle after she graduates from Union University and Jackson, Tennessee.

4 hours at gasworks with the Seattle hippies, jazz bands, and sun was a fine choice. I would recommend it to anyone.

This heat wave is the best.
(90's mellow into beautiful warm evenings, you see.)

June 28

Today was the grand culmination of a million birthdays. And by a million I mean four. Alisa, Chris, Danni, and I all embraced our new years amid boisterous good cheer (see above photo) and sunshine. We had a Mexican feast and more people than we anticipated and more heat than Seattle ever dreamed possible (all good things) so we loaded up plates and sprawled out on the grass outside to eat, drink, and make merry.
Then we sauntered, en mass, over to gasworks for some Frisbee and for some burning of the energy and to watch the sun go down over a warm, sleepy Seattle.

This one left today on a jet plane to Japan and I already miss him so.
It hasn't been 24 hours.
11 more days to go!

Happy birthday dearest Danni!
The fourth of our June birthday babies turns 23 today.
Lady, you are such a joy - I am beyond thankful that I have you in my everyday! You and your eternal sunshine, optimism, and good hair.
You are the best ball of party fun I know. I think we'll keep you.
I love you!!

I'm going to start painting again, I think.

June 23

We went to a wedding yesterday and Olivia flew up from California and Sarah came with Chris and there we had it - a little house reunion in the middle of sunny Auburn.
People have been reminding me lately that this phase of life won't last forever - and when I find myself questioning my choices and my vocation and my future and coming up with nothing but vague ideas of answers, I hang on to that.
But for the most part I am clinging to this phase happily, sometimes almost desperately - these women, my lack of responsibility, my mid twenties, my little room with it's abundance of pillows and trinkets, late nights, snooze buttons, spontaneous weekend trips, and the space to question and experiment.
Today I feel pretty grateful.

Congratulations Charis and Josh!
In a beautiful ceramony in Auburn, these two finally tied the knot...and it was such an honor to be there. It is so clear how deeply they love each other, love God, and love their friends and family. They are some of the smartest, kindest, gracious people I know, and I am thrilled they have each other!

Ps. We learned how to line dance. We were cool.

Well, hello Summer, welcome.
Please, don those shades, spread out your towel, pour yourself a tall glass of cool beverage, and stay a while.
You are great company (we love your passion spirit these days).

June 18

It was birthday day today! I teerned twenty five! I was spoiled spoiled spoiled by my dear ones (exhibit A pictured below) - and there was lots of notes, and frosting, and flowers, and sun, and splendid people. It was one of the best!
Sarah asked me what five things I want to accomplish this year, and after thinking long and hard, I think these are them:
1. Travel with my boo.
2. Volunteer and sign up to teach ESL in some way.
3. Read Anna Karenana by Leo Tolstoy and East of Eden by John Steinbeck.
4. Get a car (and also leather pants).
5. Run a half marathon.
...and maybe start a children's book.
Thank you everyone for the love, I appreciate you so much!

June 16

It is beautiful here at home, with it's wide skies, and showy sunsets, and the smell of pine needles and heat and hay. I don't think I'm ready to go back to the city yet.

Oh hey Summer quarter, welcome. I raise my proverbial glass to quiet hours, sunny windows, and walks to Thai food.

June 9

Happy birthday to my sweet girl!
Al, thank you for being such a constant in my life, such an encouragement, and such a joy. To call you travel buddy, roomie, and friend is an honor, and I appreciate you so much.
Your a fiery one my dear, I'm excited for many many more years of adventures and seeing you take the world by storm.
I love you!
Ps. For your thirtieth birthday, we'll bust these outfits out again (tans included). Just so you have something to look forward to beyond the massage, 5k, and leather pants that are going to happen this year.

June 8

As of June 10th, my love and I will have been dating for three years. Three glorious years full of laughter and tears and learning and much pizza.
But because the 10th is a Monday we decided to celebrate today on Vashon Island.

It was delightful.

Congratulations Graduates!
There are a lot of good things that you've accomplished in the last four years, and a lot of good things to come. Go out into the world knowing that it'll be fun, but also scary, and sometimes you won't have things figured out, but also that that's quite fine.
Class of 2013, have a good summer - we're proud of you!

June 6

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach (to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles: and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea

BEHOLD! The fruit of my labor.
We thought this was a pretty cute idea (thanks Write to Learn!) and perfect for post-finals season. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and I have to say being paid to cut paper and curl ribbon with McGraw twins is not half bad.
Come check it out and/or have coffee with me one of these days eh?

June 1

Today was a choose-your-own-adventure day wherein Markus and I chose to go on a bike ride downtown to see where the spirit led. Most of the time, when left to it's own devices, the spirit does a good job.
Snacks and coffee on the pier, a stroll through Pike, a leisurely cycle through the waterfront was all a very pleasant beginning to June.
